Significant Milestone in Long-Term Plan to Benefit the St. Louis Region

St. Louis – December 17, 2021 – Dismas House of St. Louis, the nation’s first residential reentry center for justice involved individuals, has acquired a facility and nearly 16 acres of property in St. Louis’ Ville Neighborhood. The property acquisition is the latest step in the organization’s long-term plan to enhance the St. Louis region, which Dismas House has diligently served since its inception in 1959.

The property, 3940 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, features more than 100,000 square feet of existing indoor space. That is more than triple the size of the present location at 5025 Cote Brilliante, where Dismas House provides reentry services.

“This milestone is nearly two years in the making and is a major step toward the next multi-million-dollar investment in the St. Louis community,” said Kevin Walk, Chief Executive Officer, Dismas House of St. Louis. “Because of our organization’s extensive experience and resources, Dismas House is uniquely positioned to assess and address critical needs within our community.”

Terms of the property acquisition were not disclosed. In 2022, Dismas House will begin planning and transformation of this facility into a state-of-the-art complex that has the potential to service multiple uses.

Dismas House over the past 4 years has completed multiple renovations to the present facility, where the organization has been located since 1971. Those investments involved several million dollars to support a contract with the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), which Dismas House has implemented for 40 years.

Dismas House of St. Louis received the very first BOP contract for federal residential reentry services in the region and has implemented it without interruption ever since, indicative of an exceptional success rate serving clients.

“We are proud of all the dedicated professionals on our team and of our track record serving the St. Louis community,” Walk said. “The future of Dismas House is even brighter than our remarkable heritage.”
