Community Garden

On Saturday, November 28th, Dismas House of Saint Louis staff partnered with Crime Victim Center to adopt a community garden in the heart of north city. At the corner of Cook and Pendleton Avennues; The Vandeventer Neighborhood Community Healing & Meditation Garden will be home to the English Tea Garden sponsored by the two organizations. Over the next few months, Dismas House and CVC staff will volunteer to transform the space which was once home to several homes which had fallen into disrepair.

This 18th Ward space will be one of St. Louis’ first healing and meditation areas recognizing victims of crime in our city. Dismas House staff and other interested parties will have the opportunity help maintain the garden and assist with community healing for many seasons to come. Being the first weekend to survey and manage the landscape, equipment was brought into the neighborhood and used to cut and remove sod in preparation for pre-season planting. Family members accompanied staff members from Dismas House and CVC for a morning of lifting, shoveling, and transporting pieces of the garden to get things growing.
