Dismas House's Employment Assistance Program Dismas
House's employment program provides assistance to residents as they reenter the
workplace. The Employment Placement Specialist (EPS) helps build partnerships
with employers and matches the employers with skilled employees. Tara Barrett is
the EPS at Dismas House. She is a
dedicated worker and has over 10 years of experience working with and assisting
ex-offenders. Ms. Barrett has worked hard fostering relationships with local
employers and employment agencies and has helped build the current database of
over 1,200 potential employers. Many
ex-offenders face a range of barriers typical of many other disadvantaged job
seekers; poor basic skills, low self-esteem, no education, or psychological
problems. By helping those residents and giving them the ability to identify
their needs, the EPS can help the offender by assisting with job placement,
educational needs, and job service referrals. Workforce
Reentry is a community corrections program that offers adult ex-offenders in the
metropolitan area with a full array of reintegration services that help
residents successfully return to the community. These services include job
training, case management, social support, and mentoring. Dismas House’s
partners in the Workforce Reentry program United States Probation Office,
Father's Support Center, Connections to Success, and other local agencies. |
